The hall opened in 1957 as the fifth hall of the University of Dhaka. Founders Day marks the anniversary.

Flag Day: 2 March Commemoration

Marking the day the first flag of Bangladesh, made in this hall, was hoisted at the Arts Building in 1971.
The flag of Bangladesh bearing the map of the country was made in this hall, and on 2 March 1971 student leaders carried it out and hoisted it for the first time in front of the Arts Building. The Joy Bangla Force was formed here in the same weeks, as the non-cooperation movement gathered pace.
Every year the association marks the date with the current residents.
