A short history of the hall, from its founding in 1957 to its present name in 2013.
The hall opened in 1957 as the fifth residential hall of the University of Dhaka, named Iqbal Hall after the poet Allama Iqbal.
In 1969, during the uprising against the Ayub regime, the residents renamed it for Sergeant Zahurul Huq. After independence, in 1972, the university made that name official as Zahurul Huq Hall. In 2013 it was amended once more to restore the martyr's full title: Shahid Sergeant Zahurul Huq Hall.
Nearly seven decades on, its former residents are spread across more than thirty countries — and this platform exists to keep them connected to the hall and to each other.
